Japan and Singapore Are Still Most Powerful Passports in the World

According to Henley Passport Index 2019 Q3 update Japan and Singapore have maintained their top position in the Henley Passport Index: passport holders of the both countries can travel visa-free or with a visa-on-arrival to 189 countries across the globe.

Japan and Singapore have been occupying the top line of the chart for 18 months in a row after they managed to outscore Germany at the beginning of 2018. 

Currently Germany shares the second line with Finland and South Korea. All the three countries provide their passport holders access to 187 destinations.

Denmark, Italy, and Luxembourg follow immediately after yielding just one visa-free country (186) to the previous group. France, Spain, and Sweden are one line lower with 185 countries and so are the members of the fifth group of 4, Austria, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden. 

The five countries with the lowest number of visa-free destinations accessible to their citizens are Afghanistan (25), Iraq (27), Syria (29), Pakistan (30) and Somalia (31).

The Henley Passport Index is a ranking of all the passports of the world according to the number of countries their holders can travel to visa-free. The ranking is updated on a quarterly bases.
