Since 2006, the annual growth of the cruise tourism market in China exceeded 40 percent. By 2030 it is most likeky will grow into the world's largest cruise market. The estimate number of cruise passengers will reach 8-10 million customers.
Currently, it is China that dominates the passenger share of Asia's cruise market. Almost 70 percent of the region's 4.24 million passengers in 2018 came from China, the data of Cruise Lines International Association reveals.
Both large cities like Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangzhou and smaller cities like Chengdu, Qingdao and Xiamen show a growing interest towards cruise vacations. Big international cruise operators have already replied to the trend with more footholds in the country. Among those who started offering cruise trips to the Chinese travellers are Carnival Corporation & plc and Royal Caribbean.
Carnival said they were very optimistic about cruise industry future in China. Last year the company sey up a joint cruise venture with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) under the name CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited. Royal Carribbean offers multiple cruise programs from Shanghai, mostly to Japan.
