A new regulation will oblige tourists to include at least one overnight stop in Bangka and to sample local food while in the area. The regulation was prompted by Bangka's popularity as a day trip destination among visiting tourists. The local officials feel it is unjust that tourists, both domestic and foreign, come to Bangka just for several hours and enjoy its beautiful scenery without using local tourist service providers like hotels ir restaurants.
The new regulation, according to the officials, is aimed at boosting tourism in Bangka. It is believed that both tourists and locals will benefit from the new regulation. Longer stays will contribute to development of local economies and allow tourists to get a better understanding of the area.
By the end of this year Bangka hopes to attract 86,000 domestic and foreign tourists. A variety of events to support the program has been already planned. They include the 2019 Sungailiat Triathlon that is expected to attract participants from 16 countries.
Bangka is home to one of the most beautiful beached in Southeast Asia, Belitung beach. There is Dutch colonial archiitecture well preserved in the centre of several towns. Bangka is a favourite destination for people from Jakarta and Palembang seeking a quick sea escape.
