Khon Kaen culture fest kicks off at weekend

The governor of the Thai city of Khon Kaen told reporters at a press briefing today that its annual cultural extravaganza is set to go ahead as scheduled. Kamthon Thawonsathit said the triple-festival outside the Provincial Hall will commence this Saturday and run through to Wednesday 10 December.

The governor said the three concurrent events are the International Silk Festival, the Red Cross Fair and the Phuk Siao Friendship Festival. He continued by saying booths set up at the event venue will offer buyers an amazing array of silks and unique products from Thailand as well as fellow ASEAN countries.

Representatives from China, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar will be joining their Thai counterparts in setting up stalls. The governor said the stallholders would be decorating their outlets in the traditional styles of their home nations and cultural origins.
  
The governor finished off by saying that cultural troupes from the six Greater Mekong Subregion countries as well as other ASEAN nations would be performing and offering insights into their traditions. The performances will be staged every day. There are no admission fees to the various zones of for the Khon Kaen festivals.
