China Eastern Airlines Eyes Making Beijing's New Airport Its Second Headquarters

China Eastern Airlines, a major Chinese airline operating international, domestic and regional routes and headquartered in Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, will use Beijing's new Daxing International Airport that is expected to be open on September 30, 2019 as an opportunity to expand its international network.

Industry experts are sure the Beijing Daxing International Airport, Beijing's second international airport currently under construction, will play a key role in China's civil aviation as well as in the development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

It will be a gigantic airport with an area of more than 1,000,000 m2. It will serve as a key transport hub for the regions related to the Belt and Road Initiative, that involves 152 countries and international organizations in Europe, Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa.

The airline sees the new airport as an opportunity for its long-term development. The carrier also eyes a possibility to make Beijing its second headquarters.

General manager of China Eastern's business network operations says that "The Beijing Daxing International Airport will enable China Eastern to obtain more slots for launching international routes from Beijing. Shanghai and Beijing will be China Eastern's two gateways to long-haul routes to overseas destinations."
