40-Days Jakarta Fair Kemayoran to Start May, 22

Jakarta Fair Kemayoran (JFK), the biggest festival in Jakarta, Indonesia, will start May, 22, 2019 and last 40 days till June, 30, 2019 celebrating the birthday of the Indonesian capital. Are you ready to have some fun?

Held annually, Jakarta Fair Kemayoran is the biggest cultural festival not only in Indonesia but in Southeast Asia in general. The program of the festival features absolutely bombastic music performance accompanied by other colourful events and activities like the Gambir Expo cultural stage, carnival parade, Miss Jakarta Fair contest, and Cosplay Contest. It also features exhibitions, trade promotions, shopping, amusement rides and a food festival. The hallmark of this event is totally spectacular fireworks that are definitely not to be missed. Exhibitors from across the country come to the fair to display a variety of products and services – from specialty food items to traditional handmade arts and crafts.

The opening ceremony will take place on May, 22, at 8 pm at Panggung Utama.

Today's fair is an offspring of the traditional trade exhibitions and entertainment that were held during the Dutch East Indies period. At those times the fair was called 'Pasar Gambir' and took place where the current Merdeka square in Jakarta (Batavia) lies. It is of interest that a similar 'Pasar Malam Besar' fair is held in the Hague, Netherlands. It is also inspired by the 'Pasar Malam' tradition of colonial era Pasar Gambir.
