The new museum will be situated in Binhai New Area in Tianjin Municipality. The total exhibition and storage area of the museum will be 150,000 square meters spread over three floors. It is planned that when open the entrance to the museum will be free of charge. The exhibitions will cover 23,000 square metres with six sections of the museum dedicated to the Chinese marine culture and history, marine ecology and environment, science education and interactive programs. There will be on-site restaurants, cafes, cinemas and souvenir shops.
The main target of creating the National Maritime Museum in Tianjin is to enhance public awareness of ecological problems related to the sea and marine life, to stimulate sea protection and marine research. It is expected that in future the museum becomes an education base for protection, education, scientific research, cultural communication, tourism and sightseeing.
Tianjin is located 130 km southeast of Beijing, the capital of China. Bullet trains connect Tianjin with the South Beijing railway station in just 33 minutes. There is a regular bus service to Beijing from Tianjin.
National Maritime Museum to open in Tianjin
