Palompon in Leyte Gets Finance from DOT to Boost Tourism

Three people’s organizations (POs) – the Liberty Eco Adventure Park, Palompon Eco Park, and Palompon Tour Guides Association – in Palompon, Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas, the Philippines, received PHP1.5 million in the frames of the post-Yolanda Comprehensive Recovery and Rehabilitation Project for tourism.

DOT sees people’s organizations as the best beneficiary for boosting tourism related project as they do their best to let poor local communities to benefit from financing of these projects.

Kalanggaman Island is by far the most popular attraction and prime destination of the region. Last year, tourism generated revenue of Kalanggaman reached PHP22.19 million, having exceeded its income target of PHP21 million.

Yet Palomon does have other things to offer tourists including activities organized within the already mentioned Palompon Eco-Terrestrial Adventure Park, Tabuk Marine Park and Bird Sanctuary, Lantaw Palompon, mighty Masaba Falls and a historical St Francis Xavier Church.

In 2018, Palompon received 104,203 domestic tourists and 9,353 foreign tourists. Palompon is located in the western part of Leyte province in about 120 kilometers away from the provincial capital of Tacloban City. Palomon is best reached via a two-and-a-half hours bus or car ride from Tacloban.
