For this purpose, TAT Sukhothai Office joined hands with TAT’s ASEAN, South Asia and South Pacific Market Division and brought to Sukhothai's Sawankhalok's district artists from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia. Walls of the buildings located in the old Chinese community were used as a canvas for creation of images themed around 'pop culture' – from food to fashion, art, literature, music, sports, media and lifestyle activities.
While speaking about the project, the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand mentioned that “As well as promoting sustainability of art and culture, the amazing street art that now adorns these buildings in Sukhothai’s Sawankhalok district also serves to amplify the city’s position as an emerging destination that is worth exploring in various aspects including traditions, way of life, and history. This fits perfectly with the TAT’s ‘Amazing Thailand Go Local’ campaign”.
Besides Sukhothai, some other cities of ASEAN were chosen to host 'pop culture' activities. These cities and destinations include Chiang Rai and Trat in Thailand, Mandalay in Myanmar and Battambang in Cambodia. Famous and popular artists from Thailand and the ASEAN region are expected to visit these destinations in order to promote and stimulate arts and cultural activities in the focused areas.

Street Art Project in Sukhothai to Promote Cultural Ties Within ASEAN Member States
