Grand Palace Ticket Now Includes Khon Performance

UNESCO-recognised Khon performance is now added to Bangkok's Grand Palace standard ticket worth THB500. Performances are held several times a day in the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre.

The standard ticket to Grand Palace in Bangkok, Thailand, covers the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew (the Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and Wat Phra Kaew Museum. Now Khon performance is also added to the list.

There will be five shows a day from Monday to Friday with no show times on weekends as weekends are always too busy with the highest numbers of tourists visiting the Palace. Performances are scheduled at 10.30 am, 1 pm, 2.30 pm, 4 pm and 5.30 pm. 30 minutes prior to each performance there will be a one-way shuttle bus plying the route from the Phiman Deves Gate at the Grand Palace to Sala Chalermkrung.

Khon is a masked dance drama genre. In Thailand, it has been performed since the times of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Khon is based on the plot of the epic tales of Ramakien. Originally it was performed exclusively by men though today women are allowed to perform as angels, goddesses, monkeys and demons. In 2018, it has been recognised by UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
