Wushan Airport to Provide Easy Access to Three Gorges Dam Region

Wushan Airport, that will serve as a convenient gateway to the Three Gorges region will open later this year, after four years of construction.

Wushan Airport will become the fourth airport with regularly scheduled passenger service in the municipality of Chongqing, other three being Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport in the Yubei District; Chongqing Baishiyi Airport, formerly the main civil airport in Chongqing; and Chongqing Guangyangba Airport, the first airport built in southwestern China. Chongqing Wushan Airport is located at the border of Wushan and Fengjie counties.

Initially the completion of the airport was planned for 2017 but rescheduled for 2019 due to construction delays. Currently both flight zone and air traffic control construction projects have already passed the completion acceptance. In early April, the inspection flight will be performed. The test flight is expected to take place after interior decoration is finished, too. All in all, he airport should become operational before July 2019.

The Three Gorges Dam is one of the world's largest power stations and a major attraction of the Wushan region. It attracts tour gourps from around China and abroad. There is also the Three Gorges Dam museum that is considered one of the largest museums in the country and covers cultural heritage of Chongqing and the Three Gorges region.
