Night Tours to Mogao Caves Available in April and May

In a bid to attract more tourists, the Mogao Caves, a popular tourist site near Dunhuang, in the northwestern province of Gansu in China, will offer visitors night tours for the second time this year.

The Mogao Caves, or Thousand Buddha Grottoes, were recognized by UNESCO as the World's Heritage Site in 1987. It is a huge system of 492 caves which contain some of the finest examples of Buddhist art works collected during the last 1,000 years. Besides numerous sculptures, beautiful murals, paintings on silk and paper, textiles as well as printed images were discovered in the Mogao cave complex.

A series of night tours will be available for booking from mid-April to early May. Customized cultural services for tourists will be provided by Dunhuang Academy. It is the second time the academy organizes night tours. Last year, the maiden tours were offered both for research and tourist groups and proved to be a success.

Besides night tours of the caves, tourists in Dunhuang will also be offered to set off for a trip to Yangguan Pass and Yumenguan Pass, two major passes of ancient China along the historic Silk Road.
