Construction of the new seaport started last August and now about 25% of work is already done. It is estimated that the construction work will be completed by the end of 2019, right before the Sea Festival hits the province for the second time.
The port is located in the southern economic corridor, in Tuek Chhou district and is estimated to be able to serve one million travellers a year when ready. The port is excpeted to become one of the key infrastructure components in the region contributing to better logistics and transport connectivity of Kampot province. It will also boost development of tourism and related sectors in Kampot province as well as other neighbouring destinations and provinces along the coast, including Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong, and Kep.
The new seaport will feature top-notch facilities that match international standards. The whole project is carried out with support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and is a part of the Greater Mekong Sub-region Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project.
