Thailand Encourages International Filmmakers to Shoot More Movies in the Country

Thailand’s Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports has put forward an initiative to develop Thailand as the world's prime location for movie production. 

According to the Department's data, in 2018, Thailand was chosen as the setting for shooting of 714 foreigns movies, slightly less than in 2017 when 810 films were shot in the country. Regardless the decline in numbers, the revenue from the movie projects in Thailand in 2018 grew to 3.149 billion baht compared to 3.074 billion baht in 2017.

In order to attract international film-makers' attention to Thailand, a variety of activities are prepared by the Department of Tourism for the Thailand International Film Destination Festival 2019 which will tale place at Siam Square One in Bangkok from 25 March to 2 April this year. The festival aims at promoting Thailand as one of the world's leading locations for shooting both Thai and foreign movies.

Some of the features Thailand is ready to offer to international film producers are scenic locations, diverse geography, beautiful natural sights – from waterfalls to beaches to rain forests to wild jungles, rich wildlife – from elephants to marine creatures, and colourful tribal culture.
 
The most famous international movies shot in Thailand include a cult DiCaprio's 'The Beach' (2000), an epic adventure comedy 'Around the World in 80 Days' (1956), a Hong Kong martial arts action film 'The Big Boss' (1971), and one of the James Bond series 'The Man with the Golden Gun' (1974).
