Now the first two phases are already completed: waiting areas near the boarding gates were expanded with more benches added for passengers waiting for their flights. A new and better organized ticketing system for taxi cabs was introduced, too. This year, the airport is proceeding with Phase 3 of its development plan. During this phase, more parking buildings will be constructed; a new terminal for international passenegers will be built; Terminal 1 will be revamped and converted into a domestic terminal; new parking bays for planes will be added and the existing ones will be renovated. Besides, traffic system, road infrastructure and airport facilities are waiting for a facelift, too.
The current capacity of the airport is 30 million passengers, but in 2018 Don Mueang served about 40 million travellers, 6.42% more than in 2017. With an increasing number of flights operated by low-cost carriers to and from Don Mueang, this figure is likely to continue growing this year, too.
In 2018, Don Mueang handled 272,361 commercial flights operating 757 daily flights to 25 destinations across Thailand and 68 destinations worldwide. Flights to Thai destinations are performed by three domestic and regional carriers. 13 more airlines fly from Don Mueang internationally.
