Tourism Revenue in Cambodia 20% Up

According to the latest figures revealed by the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, last year, the tourism sector generated USD4.3 billion in revenue showing a steady 20% growth compared to 2017.

The figures were disclosed by the Minister of Tourism at this year’s National Clean City Day held held last Tuesday at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel. In 2018 the Kingdom also saw increase in international tourists arrivals that reached 6.2 million travellers, 10.7% more than in the previous year. Political stability and strong economic growth were named as some of the most important factors contributing to tourism growth which, in its turn, plays an important role in the overall country development.

The government eyes tourism as 'green gold' of Cambodia, as the sector steadily creates new job opportunities for locals, increases their income and reduces poverty.

It is expected that 6.7 million visitors from abroad will visit Cambodia this year, the number reaching 7 million by 2020. By that time the tourism sector should create about obe million jobs and generate USD5 billion yearly.
