Air Traffic Affected by Tensions Between Pakistan and India

If you are flying from Europe to the east or from any of the Southeast Asian country west, your travel plans may be affected by closure of Pakistan airspace and Indian restriction for flights at eight Indian airports due to tensions between Pakistan and India.

As of today, Pakistani aispace remains closed till UTC8:00 estimated, but it is yet unknown whether or not closure period will be extended. Kabul is not accepting overflight southeast bound traffic exiting Pakistan, either.

The most affected are direct flights between European part of the continent and Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore as they now have to make a detour via Iran and make refuelling stops enroute.

Direct flights between UAE, Qatar, or Oman and SEA are not affected route-wise but due to heavy airtraffic delays are common with many airlines. Passengers flying via Ashgabat or Tashkent should expect 3 to 6 hours delays at best with no information on conneting flights – it is unclear wherther such flights will be rescheduled or passengers will be put on the next available flight.

Before leaving for the airport, check information regarding your flight on your airline's official website.
