Miss World Pageant Comes to Thailand for the First Time

Thailand will host the 69th edition of the Miss World Pageant contest. As it was announced last week, the month-long festival and final will take place in Thailand in December this year at Phaya Thai Palace in Bangkok

Currently the title of Miss World is held by Vanessa Ponce de Leon from Mexico who was chosen the best among contestants from 130 countries. The contest was founded in 1951 by Eric Morley and has been running annually since then. Miss World is one of the 'Big Four' international beauty pageant events other three being Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Earth.

Since 1971, 'The Beauty With A Purpose' section was added to the pageant in order to inspire and empowere thousands of young women to use their talents to support the poor, sick and disadvantaged. Now each participant should present to the jury a charity project focusing on helping their home nation. This year, Miss World Thailand 2019 will help several local humanitarian organizations, including the Rotary Club of Thailand.

Thai beauties have not yet managed to win the crown of Miss World. In 2018, Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan, Miss World Thailand 2018, became the first-ever Thai runner-up. Nicolene runs a charity platform supporting children with autism.
