There are 5 categories in 2019 Awards: Climate Action, Investing in People, Destination Stewardship, Social Impact and Changemakers with 3 finalists chosen in each category. All categories but one – Climate Action – feature finalists from Asia. Here they are.
Investing in People category spotlights those organizations which are considered some of the best emplyers in the tourism sector. In this category, Lemon Tree Hotels Limited, India, will compete with its rivals from Tanzania and Brazil.
Destination Stewardship honours organizations which help certain places to thrive and develop in a sustainable way for the benefit of the locals and tourists. Masungi Georeserve, tucked in the rainforests of Rizal, Philippines, has been nominated.
In Social Impact category, which praises organizations improving places they are operating in, Nikoi island, off the east coast of Bintan, Indonesia, is mentioned.
Finally, Changemakers category, that essentially focuses on the efforts of organizations to combat illegal wildlife trade through supporting sustanable tourism initiatives, features The Cardamom Tented Camp, Cambodia.
The winners will be announced in April this year during the awards ceremony at the 19th WTTC Global Summit in Seville, Spain.
