Bangkok puppet festival ends on a high

The Thai Culture Ministry has stated that the 10-day puppet festival staged in Bangkok successfully ended yesterday. Culture minister Weera Rotephotchanarat stated that record numbers of Thai and foreign visitors had attended shows at the Harmony World Puppet Carnival venues.

The minister said that people who came to the performance venues had acclaimed the multi-cultural showpieces for their beauty and cultural insights. The minister continued by saying that the puppetry had been of such a high standard that it would encourage youngsters from around the world to take it up as a hobby.

The puppet jamboree was staged in several different locations in Bangkok. There were three stages at Sanam Luang Park and other venues included Wangna Theatre and the Siam Paragon shopping and lifestyle complex. The puppet carnival began on 1 November and concluded yesterday.

The organisers say in excess of 150 troupes from around 70 nations came for the puppet extravaganza. Heat winners from countries as far as apart as Myanmar, Portugal and Colombia shared 14 prizes for their aesthetically pleasing performances and costumes.
