Rail Travel from Jakarta to SW Java Is Now Possible with KIA

A new railway route from the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta, to Southwestern Java has been opened recently by the state-owned railway operator PT KAI.

The route connects Jakarta with Banjar in West Java and travels via Bandung. It will be served by Pangandaran train. Earlier Galunggung train from Bandung to Tasikmalaya in the southern part of West Java was launched by KAI. The service will improve considerably the accessibility of Priangan and support the national tourism program known as Wonderful Indonesia.

Each Pangandaran train has a total capacity of 520 seats and features four executive-class carriages and four premium-economy carriages. The distance between Jakarta and Banjar is 330 km, and the train will cover it in about eight hours. Travelling from Bandung to Banjar, the distance is slightly under 160 km with travel time of four and a half hours.

Now travellers who wish to visit Priangan, a cultural and mountainous region in West Java, as well as Pangandaran, a seaside town and district of Pangandaran regency on the southern coast of Java, to admire natural attractions including Pangandaran Beach, Batu Hiu Beach, Cukang Taneuh (also known as Green Canyon) and Batu Karas Beach have a more convenient option for getting there.

From Jakarta’s Gambir Station, the train to Banjar departs daily at 7.50 am arriving to Bandung at 11.07 am and then heading further to Banjar after a 30-minute stop and reaching the destination at 3.56 pm. The return train leaves Banjar at 1.55 pm and arrives to the capital at 10.34 pm.
