Three Winter Festivals in Thailand to Visit Right Now

Enjoy 'Love and Warmth at Winter's End, the River of Rattanakosin' in Bangkok, catch eels in Surin or get lost amid blooming gardens in Khon Kaen – winter festivals are hitting Thailand.

Opened on December, 9th, 2018, the winter festival in Bangkok has already become one of the most visited events in the country. The main idea of the festival is to cultivate love and unity among Thai people and to showcase the long-standing bond between the royal institution and the people of Thailand. Visitors dressed in Thai national costumes are flocking to the Royal Plaza and Sanam Suea Pa to parttake in cultural performances, learn more abour Ratthanakosim history and endulge in shopping. The festival will last till January, 19th, 2019.

In Surin, one of the northern Thai provinces, the annual Eel Catching, Hom Mali Rice' festival is on till December, 20th. It is the 20th issue of the week-long festival featuring the eel catching competition as its main highlight. Everybody is invited to try their luck in catching slippery creatures in a 6 m wide, 10 m long and 50 cm mud pond. It is an international event with participants in China, Denmark, Japan, France, the United Kingdom, South Africa, the Philippines, and Thailand competing.

In Khon Kaen, also in Isan, the Amazing International Flower Festival Khon Kaen 2018 will impress visitors with over 100,000 flowers on display arranged in 15 zones. The festival takes place in Bueng Tung Sarng park and will continue till January, 3rd.
