The route will link the cities of Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China's Sichuan province to Xiamen, a port city on China’s southeast coast in Fujian province via Chongqing and Wenzhou. Currently there are no high speed trains operating on this route. The total distance between Chengdu and Xiamen is over 2,000 km and currently it takes the full 24 hours the least to travel this route overland.
The train G2371/2 will operate from Chengdudong (Chengdu East) Railway Station to Xiamenbei (Xiamen North) Railway Station with several stops en route including Chongqingxi (Chongqing West) Station, Guiyangdong Station, Huaihuanan Station, Changshanan (Changsha South) Station, Nanchangxi Station and Sanmingbei Station. The new route will facilitate commuting between Chengdu, Chongqing and Guiyang with Xiamen.
The next year, China Railway Chengdu Group is going to further upgrade the railway network within the region, adding 583 pairs of passenger trains out of which 443 pairs will be high speed trains and 140 pairs – ordinary trains.
