The trial run, which started in Hainan province on November, 22, has shown positive results and now all the high-speed train stations in China will join the club.
Printing out your ticket after the online purchase will no longer be required. Instead, passengers will be able to board a train after scanning their valid ID. The list of valid identification credentials published by CRC, includes a second-generation ID card for Chinese mainland residents, foreign permanent residence permits, residence permits for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, Mainland Travel Permits for Taiwan Residents, and Mainland Travel Permits for Hong Kong and Macao Residents. In case with foreign visitors, the bar code of the ticket order on a mobile phone will suffice to board a train. It will also be accepted in case the machine is not able to scan the ID.
Currently the paperless ticket service is already implemented in several cities countrywide including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Wuhan. It improves travel efficiency and in the long run contributes to a more substantial use of resorces.
