Kumbhalgarh Festival Is On in Rajasthan This Weekend

On December, 1–3, Rajasthan, a northern Indian state at the border with Pakistan, is hosting Kumbhalgarh Festival celebrating Maharana Kumbha.

Maharana Kumbha, or Kumbha of Mewar, was the 15th century rular of the western Indian kingdom of Mewar. A benefactor of arts and culture, Rana Kumbha is also credited with being the author of several important literature pieces including the Samgita-raja, the Rasika-priya commentary on the Gitagovinda, the Sudaprabandha, and the Kamaraja-ratisara.

The festival takes place at the Kumbhalgarh Fort, the chief citadel of Mewar, also constructed during Maharana Kumbha's reign. For the event, the fort is decorated with thousands of lights. The program of the festival features traditional dances and performances which will let you feel the real taste of India. Some of the highlights of Kumbhalgarh Festival include Sufi songs, Rajasthani folk dance, and saperaI snak dance.  

Today, the visitors will see Rajasthani Folk Fusion – from Gair and Terahtaali to Langa, Kachchi Ghodi and Kathakali with Odissi Dance performed in the evening. Tomorrow, on December, 2, is the day of classical dance fusion with Kathak, KuchiPudi, Bharatnayan, Kathakali and MohiniAttam shown to the public. On the last day, December, 3, flute and sarod musical instruments will be played by masters.
