The Guinness World Record of the longest boat in the world has been broken this morning in Cambodia after the representatives of the World Guinness Records confirmed a 87.3 metre long and 1.94 metre wide boat has stolen the title.

It took 14,000 Cambodians from the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia 192 days to build this huge boat made of hardwood and featuring traditional Khmer motives. The boat was named 'Kambojikaputtakhemaratari' what literally means 'the Khmers in Cambodia'. The passenger capacity of the boat is 179 people. The construction cost  $60,000.

The boat can be seen in Prey Veng, the southeastern province of Cambodia bordering Vietnam. The innauguration ceremony took place at Neak Loeung town, straddling the Mekong river where National Route 1 crosses it.

It is not the first time craftsment and artisians from Cambodia make it to the Guinness World Records with their creations. This year, in July, a 1,149 metre long traditional variety of a scarf, known locally as krama, was recognized as the world’s longest hand-woven scarf. Three years ago, in 2015, a traditional Cambodian rice cake, nom ansorm, amazed the world with its four tons size. Sticky rice, mug bean, and pork was used to prepare the cake. Also in 2015, Cambodia was the place where the Madison dance with the highest number of dancers was recorded.
