River Festival to Be Held in Kampong Chhnang

The fifth edition of the River Festival will hit the province of Kampong Chhnang in March, as announced by the Ministry of Tourism.

The main aim of the River Festival is to attract tourirsts' attention to the provinces along the river and make them aquainted with the lifestyle of the villagers as well as boost local tourist servives and enoucrage locals to protect their heritage and natural environment they are living in. The festival will feature a variety of cultural and sporting activities, including tree planting, seminars, tourism and Khmer product exhibitions and trade fairs.

First held in 2015 in Kratie where over 100,000 visitors attended the festivities, the festival since then has become an annual event. Last year, Kandal province welcomed a much more large-scale version of the festival with 1.5 million guests participatining in the activities.

Kampong Chhnang doesn’t get nearly as many visitors as other parts of Cambodia which is a shame as this is a lovely section of the country that should be as well visited as other places like Kampot. The town lies on the Tonle Sap River and also has a great riverside market where you can see typical Khmer products being sold. Another highlight here is the floating village and you can take a boat and go for a tour which can be a great experience if you have never seen anything like this before.
