According to the Bangkok Post, the problem lies with contractors who are behind with various jobs at the airport. Another key factor is what insiders close to Airports of Thailand (AoT) management say was the fast-track special bid procedures and acceptances allowed under the old administration.
Contractors say work on Terminal 2’s air-conditioning and electrical equipment is more complex than it seemed at first and is the reason for delays on their part. The AoT has allocated more than THBthree billion for the upgrade and this also includes improvements to a long corridor, one of the terminal’s piers and a multi-storey car park.
The problems with the terminal’s improvements were exposed by new AoT chairman Prasong Poontaneat. He says that the previous 29 different categories of repair work need to be streamlined and should be a maximum of five.
The chairman continued by saying that AoT will set criteria for tenders next month and open bidding before the end of the year. Once the bids have been allocated, work will start. Mr Poontaneat finished off with the warning that there will be no room for special bids this time around.

The refurbishment of a terminal at Bangkok’s second is behind schedule and is expected to be completed one year later than first planned. The work on Terminal 2 at Don Muang Airport was scheduled to be partially completed in time for a soft opening next month.
