To meet the growing demand for domestic travel, there will be daily flights between Sigiriya, Hambantota and Koggala starting from December, 1st.
While Sri Lanka does offer overland options for travelling between these destinations, the island roads are notorious for jams making a 60 km trip into a three hour journey and drivers – for reckless driving. The new direct flights will cut the travel time from 5-7 hours to less than one hour.
Sigiriya – Hambantota – Koggala flight will depart daily at 2.45 pm, making a stop at Hambantota and leaving for Koggala right away. Travel time between Sigiriya and Hambantota is about 40-45 minutes compared to 5–7 hours by bus; from Hambantota to Koggala – 30–50 minutes or up to 6 hours overland.
Direct flights will be of great help for those travelling to the attractions in the vicinity of Sigiriya including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla, and Habarana while travellers heading to the southern coast will be able to reach Galle, Bentota, Beruwala and other neighbouring destinations.
