Budget airline offers flight promo to Phuket

Thai Lion Air is marking the launch of its new service to Phuket with cut-price fares. One-way tickets for the new route between Don Muang Airport in Bangkok and the Andaman Sea Island begin at THB515.

The offer is for a limited number of seats on each flight. It applies to the period from 15 September until 31 October 2014. The maiden flight on the route departs on 15 September. Announcing the promotion, the carrier’s sales manager stated that standard flight ticket prices will be around the THB1,000 mark.

Flights for November and December are actually showing on Thai Lion Air’s website at THB915. The sales manager, Numpon Rungsawang, continued by saying that when the Phuket flight service is launched it will operate once a day in each direction. He added that the airline hoped to eventually offer five round-trips a day.

Phuket News reported that the carrier will use Boeing 737-900ERs on the route. The outbound flight will depart from Don Muang at 17:45 and arrive on Phuket 90 minutes later. The return service is scheduled to leave at 20:00.

Unlike some low-cost-carriers operating in Southeast Asia, Thai Lion Air does not add an extra fee for checked baggage and each passenger has a 15kg allowance. The airline is a subsidiary of Indonesia’s Lion Air. As well as the Phuket service, the carrier is also starting routes from Bangkok to Krabi, Surat Thani and Udon Thani.
