From 26 March 2015, Thai AirAsia X flights between Bangkok and Osaka will increase from five times a week to once a day. The number of services on the Bangkok to Narita route will double to twice a day. The carrier has already opened bookings for the new flights.
Mr Buranasiri held a press conference at Narita Airport to mark the arrival of the first flight from Bangkok. According to the Bangkok Post, the CEO said that the 50 per cent of the seats on the two existing new routes for the first quarter of 2015 had already been reserved.
Tourism figures for 2013 show that around 450,000 Thai tourists travelled to Japan and 1.5 million Japanese came to Thailand. Although the number of Japanese visiting Thailand dropped off during the first half of this year, tourism agencies say the end of political uncertainty has triggered a surge in the numbers now arriving.
