AirAsia ups Bangkok Japan flight frequency

The CEO of Thai AirAsia X has stated that the carrier is increasing
the frequency of flights on two new routes from Bangkok to Japan. Nadda
Buranasiri told reporters at Tokyo’s Narita Airport on Monday that strong
advance reservations for the routes had spurred the low-cost airline into
adding an extra nine flights a week.

From 26 March 2015, Thai AirAsia X flights between Bangkok and Osaka will increase from five times a week to once a day. The number of services on the Bangkok to Narita route will double to twice a day. The carrier has already opened bookings for the new flights.

Mr Buranasiri held a press conference at Narita Airport to mark the arrival of the first flight from Bangkok. According to the Bangkok Post, the CEO said that the 50 per cent of the seats on the two existing new routes for the first quarter of 2015 had already been reserved.

Tourism figures for 2013 show that around 450,000 Thai tourists travelled to Japan and 1.5 million Japanese came to Thailand. Although the number of Japanese visiting Thailand dropped off during the first half of this year, tourism agencies say the end of political uncertainty has triggered a surge in the numbers now arriving.
