Like a Local – Try Your Hand in Daily Activities in This Balinese Village

Bedulu village, home to the famed Goa Gajah, in the southeastern part of Bali, Indonesia, offers tourists to have glimpses of local life – and try their hand in daily activities of the locals. Would you like to join?

Sitting 26 km northeast of Denpasar, Beluru is the birthplace of the popular Kecak dance. While there is a number of attractions in the area like the Yeh Pulu Temple, Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave) and the Samuan Tiga Temple, securing the constant flow of visitors, the villagers stepped forward with the initiative to develop 'a day in the life' activities aimed at tourists which will allow them to discover local traditions, learn local culture and better understand the local way of life.

Visitors will be invited to visit local homes, participate in villagers' daily routine and mingle with locals. There will be a variety of workshop type activities like learning to cook local dishes, playing local musical instruments, making woven bamboo mats also known as klakat  and used in religious rites, and assembling canang sari, those beautiful small basket-like offerings of grass and flowers. The head of the local community centre believes that the initiative will help the village develop its economic potential and boost tourism.
