1. Kalimpong
Arguably the most popular and frequently visited hill station in the Northeast, Kalimpong sits 50 km from Darjeeling. Besides balmy weather, there are a lot of natural attractions and Buddhist monasteries in the area.
2. Darjeeling
Tea! Tea is what comes to your mind on hearing 'Darjeeling'. And rightly so. Tea plantations abound in the region as do the Buddhist monasteries. Gaze at the mighty Kanchenjunga, take a ride aboard the Darjeeling toy train, or drive up to Tiger Hill to catch a breathtaking sunrise.
3. Mirik
Just 50 km kilometres southwest of Darjeeling, this is the queitest hill station for those who want to get away from it all. The drive to Mirik takes approximately an hour and a half.
4. Gangtok
The capital of Sikkhim, Gangtok amazes visitors with stunning scenery at every corner. Located in the eastern Himalayas, it offers its fair share of Buddhist monasteries, high-altitude lakes and passes.
5. Kurseong
Easily reached by the charming toy train of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Kurseong sits at its southern terminus. If you are in the area, it's a good idea to check it out, too.
