Well, bicycling is popular – whether you do it for fun, to keep fit or to move around, and ziplining is no novelty at all, but what about combining them together? Tree Shade Resort TravKod located 23 km northeast of the provincial capital in Balaing commune offers its guests to try their hand – ir rather foot? – in cycling along a thin wire fixed high above the treetops some 20 m from the ground. Get thrilled while excersising and taking in amazing views of lush forests and the 60-hectar lake below. There is also a Superman section and a classic zip-line section. The attraction is brand new and even the prices for foreign visitors have not yet been announced (while the locals pay USD15 for the three courses).
Just only 5 years ago Balaing was nothing more than a usual local village by the lake, 10 km from Phnom Kulen and Angkor Archaeological Park featuring a couple of primitive huts for tourists and another couple of food stalls. Today between 500 and 2000 guests visit the area which is complete with 250 wooden bulgalows and 60 lakeside restaurants daily. While the residents definitely benefit from the influx of tourists, the local natural tourism association is doing their best to provide them with an environmentally friendly accommodation and sustainable service.
