The golden season – the time when the rice fields are ripening, is arguably the most beautiful time to visit to fully enjoy local landscapes. An off-road car tour will be offered to the visitors of the festival to let them get closer to nature and Yen Bai natural attractions which besides spectacular terraced rice fields include trekking routes through lush forests and caving experience in a recently opened for public 1000-m long Tien Nu cave, a natural cavern at the foot of the Khau Pha pass.
The program of the festival features street performances, traditional sports competitions, outdoor food stalls areas and photo exhibitions on history, traditions and natural beauty of the region.
Currently Yen Bai province and Mu Cang Chai terraces remain relatively unexplored by foreign tourists, probably not in the last place due to awful road conditions. From Hanoi, one has to cover 360 km to get there but it can take as long as 13 hours. Currently the best way to reach Yen Bai and Mu Cang Chai is by train which needs about 4-5 hours to bring you there. There are daily trains departing in the morning between 8am and 10am.
