From the next month (1 August) the Singapore Authorities will increase the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fee for foreign-registered cars which enters the country. It will be raised from S$20 to S$35 per day. The Goods Vehicle Permit (GVP) fee for foreign-registered goods vehicles will be  S$40 instead usual S$10 per calendar month.

In spite of this the foreign travelers will be able to save money during VEP-free days and hours during Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays in Singapore and between 5pm and 2am on all other days.

The new rules will not apply buses or taxis, so for backpackers, using public transport, everything remains the same. The VEP fee for foreign-registered motorcycles will not be changed also -  S$4 per day.
