With the opening of this section, travel time between Beijing, the capital of China, and Hong Kong will be reduced to mere 9 hours – today, if travelling overland, one should allow at least 24 hours to cover this 2,200+ km route.
At the early stage of operation short-haul trains will link the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station with the stations of the mainland China including Futian, Shenzhen North, Humen and Guangzhou South.
Later they will be complemented by long-haul trains which, besides Beijing, will provide a reliable connection between Hong Kong and other major cities in China like Shanghai, Kunming, Guilin, Guiyang, Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Hangzhou, Nanchang, Fuzhou, Xiamen and Shantou.
It is expected that 114 trains will daily depart from Hing Kong at peak hours heading to the mainland China.
