The pedestrian road is a part of a larger Houng Riverfront project which will run for 15 km along the river from Vong Canh hill to Bao Vinh ancient street. The construction of the first part cost USD2.27 and was initiated in February this year. It stretches from Phu Xuan bridge to Festival restaurant and includes a 400-meter long pedestrian bridge made of ironwood which blends perfectly with the environment and a pedestrian street along the river as well as the warf. It is due to open in two weeks' time, on September, 15. The road will eventually connect Nguyen Dinh Chieu pedestrian street with Ly Tu Trong Park.
Before the opening of the new pedestrian road, Hue City will host Grapefruit Festival scheduled for August, 30–September, 2. It will be the 6th edition of the annual event celebrating the local variety of grapefruit, Thanh Tra. The festival program will feature a wide range of activities including fruit contest, culinary competitions and folk games. There will be a chance to purchase the famed local variety of the fruit and local souveniers.
