The boat racing festival will start on Monday, September, 3rd at the village of Had Haine on the Nam Khan River with a traditional ceremony of blessing of the racing boats followed by the race itself at noon sharp with up to 30 boat teams participating.
On Friday, September, 7th, there will be a boat race on the Mekong River at Yingdong, Sang Kha Lok village. The race will start at noon and there will be a lot of food stalls and entertainment activities both for adults and kids.
The main race will take place on Sunday, September, 9th in the centre of Luang Prabang on the Nam Khan River at 9am, preceeded by the alms giving ceremony held at 6am at Wat Sene temple.
Boun Hor Khao Padab Dinh is celebrated on the 14th day of the waning moon of the ninth lunar month. It is the day to pay respect to the ancenstors and offer monks alms of rice cakes, boiled rice, and fruit.
