Cambodia Airways (CAW) Plan Expansion – Fast, Are They Not?

The Phnom Penh Pochentong International Airport-based Cambodia Airways (CAW), a new airline which operated their maiden flight only a month ago, on July, 10th, have already charted their 5-year expansion plan. Let's look into it.

Currently the airline flies two aircrafts, both being Airbus A319. Before the end of the year, they will be joined by three A320s. By 2020, the fleet will grow to 10 aircrafts and double the number three years later, by 2023.

At the moment, CAW connects three domestic destinations – Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville with Macau being the only international destination on offer, though the international route network is expected to expand quickly with Taipei route already planned for this August. Other international destinations which will be added in the first turn include Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong, and Taichung in Taiwan. The next stage of expansion will see flights to several destinations in China, South Korea and Japan.

Though there is a considerable competition on the domestic market with eight other carriers operating flights around the Kingdom, the CAW representatives believe there is a great potential for growth of the airline.
