But it is not the end of the story for the zoo, no fear, no regret: all Dusit zoo's inhabitants will be gradually relocated to their new address in Pathum Thani, a province north of Bangkok. In December 2017 King Vajiralongkorn granted a new plot of land to the zoo. The new headquarters of the zoo will be three times larger then the current plot – about 48 hectares – thus allowing to keep animals in better conditions and to add some new spicies to the current fund.
Dusit Zoo was founded on the order of King Chulalongkorn Rama V. It was supposed to become the King's private garden hence the choice of the location adjacent to the royal palace. The royal estate of the Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall next to which the zoo sits has been recently closed to public and the decision has been made to relocae the zoo.
There are currently 2218 birds and animals of 329 species living in the Dusit zoo. Annually it attracts up to 2.5 million visitors.
