Enjoy Free Train Rides from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville and Poipet

Train rides between Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, and Sihanoukville, a popular seaside resort city, will most probably be free of charge during Pchum Ben holiday in October 2018.

Earlier this year it was announced that 200 buses will provide free rides during Pchum Ben. The initiative follows the successful lauchn of free buses during the Khmer New Year in April when over 14,000 passengers used the service of 60 free public buses to travel to their hometowns. For Pchum Ben, the number of buses is tripled and they will probably be complemented by free train rides, too.

Royal Railways, the company operating the railway transportation in Cambodia, has already received the request to waive the ticket fare for the holiday from the Prime Minister. Most likely, it will be approved. This week Royal Railways have already agreed to continue free rides on Western railway line which connects Phnom Penh with the border town of Poipet till January 2019 thus cancelling their previous intention to start selling tickets from August, 1.

Currently, there are 4 regular trains between the capital and Sihanoukville on Friday, 3pm, Saturday, 7am, Sunday, 7am and 4pm, with return rides on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 7am and one more departure on Sunday at 4pm.
