Tourist-Friendly Tuk-Tuk Programme Is Launched in Sri Lanka

Tuk-tuks in Sri Lanka are now 'tourist-friendly' certified. Starting from July, 31st, tuk-tuks which comply with the standards of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) display a special logo to confirm they provide high-quality services to tourists.

Tuk-tuk drivers who wish to participate in the initiative and to obtain the logo should complete a special training program first. The goal of the initiative is to guarantee that tourists who use 'tourist-friendly' service providers will get the best service possible. Tourist-friendly tuk-tuk service is already under operation in Galle and if it proves to be efficient the initiavite will be copy-pasted to other destinations throughout the island. Up to now, 750 tuk-tuk drivers from different districts of Galle have already finished their training in the frame of SLTDA's campaign.

The Tourist Authority of Sri Lanka are also planning to include into the 'tourist-friendly' program eating venues and homestays. In general this initiative will help raise standards of tourist services and ensure sane competition between the operators of hospitality sector in Sri Lanka
