Thailand Celebrates Birthday of His Majesty the King – A Lot of Royal Yellow in the Streets

On July, 28th, the Thai nation celebrates the birthday of Rama X, Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, the King of Thailand. There is going to be a lot of yellow everywhere – yellow clothes, yellow flags and yellow flowers, too.

You can also notice fragrant scented yellow trees blooming all around Thailand in July marking the auspicious occasion of His Majesty King Rama X's birthday anniversary. They are Yellow Star trees, considered His Majesty's emblem. When presiding and visiting Royal Ceremonies in different locations thoughout Thailand, His Majesty personally plants Yellow Star trees to represent the King and bring luck and offer protection to people of the Kingdom.

Thoughout the month of July Thai people are encouraged to plant yellow star trees in honour of the King as well as wear yellow clothes, tam boon – make merit and good deeds, keep their homes clean and help restore temples or trim communal gardens.

Yellow is considered the royal colour in Thailand. Besides Yellow Start tree, there is another popular ornamental tree blooming in March-May, the Golden Rain Tree, or Cassia Fistula, the national flower symbol of the country.
