First Calibtarion Flight to Van Don Airport Is a Success

Van Don International airport in Quang Ninh province, Northern Vietnam, has recently received its first calibration flight which landed safely on its 3.6 km long and 45 m wide runway on July, 11th.

It is the first privately funded airport in Vietnam and is located 50 km northeast of Halong Bay, the UNESCO World Heritage Site. When put into operation, the airport will facilitate greatly travel to Halong Bay which is now only accessible overland. Hopefully, Van Don airport will get fully operational before the end of the year, in December.

At the initial stage which will last till 2020, the airport will be able to handle up to 7.000 passengers daily and up to 1.250 passengers hourly in peak hours. The yearly capacity is estimated as 2.5 million passengers with 9 commerical routes served. By 2030, the capacity of the airport will double with the aircraft parking stands to be able to accomodate 15 aircrafts compared to 7 during the first phase. The airport will be connected with Ha Long Bay by means of an expressway which is also scheduled to open in December 2018.
