Tourists from China form a considerable part of all the visitors coming to the country. One of the most important factors which contributed to the growth of the Chinese traffic is the relaxation of visa rules for entering Malaysia.
In the first half of 2018 the total of 29.7 million passengers entered the country through KLIA, out of which 21.6 million flew internationally with ASEAN and non-ASEAN sectors represented almost equally. In the same period all the airports countrywide managed by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) welcomed 48.7 million visitors.
With the influx of the Chinese tourists these figures will be higher in the second half of 2018, according to MAHB's representatives. These expectations allow to count on higher revenue from retail segments. It is forecasted that both short and medium long haul segments performed by low-cost carries like AirAsia and AirAsia X will benefit from the current trend.
