Tourists Arrivals on the Rise in Cambodia

All the three international airports of Cambodia – in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville – have experienced a steady growth of passenger arrivals during the first half of 2018.

Unsurprisingly, the main reason for the growth is a strong influx of the Chinese tourists coming to the country though visitors from other Asian countries including Vietnam, South Korea and Thailand are also fueling the growth.

In January–June 2018 over 5.2 million visitors entered the Kingdom via airports what is almost a quarter more than during the same period of the previous year. The Cambodia Airport representatives feel confident that the trend persists with the number of visitors reaching 10 million passengers before the end of the year.

Out of the three airports, Phnom Penh has welcomed over the half of all the passengers arriving to the Kingdom (2.6 million) immediately followed by Siem Reap (2.3 million), the  gateway to the amazing Archeological park of Angkor, the main draw of Cambodia for many tourists from around the world. Sihanoukville is currently demonstrating much more modest results with 243,000 passengers entering the country via this airport though compared to 2017 it is a 70% rise.

Currently, the three Cambodian airports serve 45 airlines out of which nine are domestic airlines. On average all the three operate 250 flights a day.
