No More Vans at Morchit from August 1st

A heads up on oncoming relocation of all the vans from Morchit Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Thailand to a new terminal right across the road: from August, 1st, no more vans will be operating from the old good Morchit.

Relocated from the Victory Monument to Morchit almost two years ago, now public van services face another relocation. This time they will migrate to a new terminal which is fortunately is close by under the Si Rat expressway on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road – exactly opposite the old Morchit.

The new complex occupies 300 rai and is able to handle 4,500 vans and 30,000 passengers on a daily bases. The Bangkok transport authorities believe that relocation of vans will help minimise confusion as the old Morchit Bus Terminal is currently overcrowed. Taking away about 3,000 vans which depart the terminal daily will give it a breath of fresh air.

Almost 30% of all the vans have already been relocated from the old Morchit to the new terminal since the beginning of the month. The rest will move out by August, 1st, leaving Morchit completely van-free.

The new terminal will reportedly make van travel more convenient. Opposite to the current scheme when each van operator sells their tickets in separate kiosks, there will be one-for-all kiosks at the new terminal organized by region.

It is also planned to finally relocate all the bus services from Morchit to the new terminal by 2024.
