National Road 55 Is Almost Ready – Come & Enjoy Jaw-Dropping Views

Despite the renovation of the national Road 55 in Cambodia linking Khrong Pursat, off National Highway 5 west of Tonle Sap Lake, to the border with Thailand is not yet finished, the road has already become popular with travellers. Why?

The seprentine and relatively narrow road featuring hairpin turns winds though scenic mountainous region and offers breath-taking views of the Cardamom, Pramuoy and Crying Chinese mountains covered with dense jungle forests.

The total length of the road is about 182 km. It runs all way from the Neak Ta Klang Moeung monument, Pursat, to the border with Thailand. The renovation works on NR55 began in 2015 and now they are almost done. The whole project cost the government USD133 million.

The new road will help boost tourism around Pursat province. Though the capital of the province itself is an unremarkable sleepy town, it is also a gateway to the famous Cardamom and Elephant Mountains, the region which lures tourists with abundance of trekking opportunities, pristine jungle, swamps and lakes teeming with wildlife, and small ingenious communities living in harmony with nature.
