New Terminal Planned for Phu Bai International Airport, Hue

Phu Bai international airport located in Thua Thien-Hue province in the central part of Vietnam, will soon receive the second terminal which will increase the capacity of the airport almost five times.

Currently, the airport receives about 1.5 million passengers yearly. The new terminal will allow to handle up to 7.5 million visitors. The deadline for the beginning of construction works is set to the second quarter of 2019. It is expected that the construction of the new terminal will take less than two years and by 2020 the airport will be able to achieve the target 3.5-5 million passenger flow. With the yearly average growth rate of 15%, in the cause of the next five years after 2020, by 2025, the airport will reach its full capacity serving 6-7.5 million passengers per year.

Phu Bai international airport received its first international flight in 2005 – the flight was operated by Austrian Airlines and originated in Luang Prabang in Laos. At the moment three Vientam based airlines – Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and JetStar Pacific Airlines – operate flights to Phu Bai international airport linking Hue to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Nha Trang in Vietnam and Zunyi in China.

The closest international airport to Phu Bai is Da Nang International Airport located in the coastal city of Danang. During the six months in 2013 when Phu Bai was closed for upgrade and repairs of its runway, it served as the main airport for those wishing to visit Hue.
